RyanAir announced an investment of $100mln in a brand new Bulgarian airbase. According to SeeNews, the Irish low-cost airline will open its operation in Burgas and will service 10 new destinations. The official launch is planned to happen in the end of March 2018, in time for the Summer season. The move by the carrier is surely in response to record setting demand in 2016 & 2017.
Burgas Airport provides international and domestic flights to over 146 destinations in 41 countries, operated by 77 airlines. In 2017, the Airport welcomed more than 2 million passengers, having passed that mark last August. A recent report showed a steady growth of 4% in passenger traffic over the previous year. Situated on the coastline of Black sea, or 10km away from the Burgas city center, Burgas airport connects major holiday resorts such as Sunny Beach, Pomorie and Nessebar to a number of European cities.

The Irish low-cost airline has a base in Bulgaria’s capital city – Sofia, which serves flights to 10 countries from Sofia Airport. It is considered a main international airport for the eastern region, providing direct and transit flights to more than half a million passengers monthly.
The annual statistics for 2016 showed RyanAir has served 10,2% of all Sofia Airport passengers. The total number of served passengers by the airport, reportedly exceeded 5 mln people.
The news didn’t come as a surprise, acknowledging the recent record Bulgaria has set, surpassing leading European destinations in massive tourism growth. Industry experts reported a significant increase among the luxury development sector, welcoming a wave of high-net newcomers. The favorable economy conditions in Bulgaria enable foreigners to obtain a fast-track citizenship through investment.
